Dr. Warren Farrell’s “Boys to Men” Speech Protests on Canadian Prime-Time News

I just appeared on one of Canada’s popular prime-time news shows, Michael Coren’s The Arena. Coren introduced the protests against me and the Canadian Association for Equality at the University of Toronto in the context of the abridgement of free speech resulting from the protestors creating a human blockade that prevented people from hearing my presentation on “Boys to Men”. He also reveals how he has come to be more and more aware of the loss of rights to fathers after divorce. His thoughtful context and questions make this a highly recommended show.

Despite about 100 protestors blocking the entrance to my presentation on Boys to Men at the University of Toronto this past Friday, Nov. 16, I was ultimately able to speak.

Why the physically and verbally violent protestors who tore down and defaced hundreds of posters? In part, because my Boys to Men presentation was sponsored by the Canadian Association for Equality (CAFÉ). CAFÉ is a non-profit, self-funded group affiliated with the U of Toronto. It’s only a year old. Some feminist-oriented groups, and especially the Socialist Workers Party, objected to their efforts to bring to the U of Toronto an understanding of the boy crisis and the importance of incorporating boys and men’s issues into the discussion of gender issues. From their perspective, boys and men’s issues equal men’s rights; men are the oppressors and the rapists; and a university shouldn’t be allowing “hate speech.” From my perspective, boys and men are in the same family boat as women and girls, and boys are experiencing a boy crisis throughout the industrialized world that is hurting boys, families, the economy and those of our daughters who wish to parent their children with motivated and loving men.

Of course, the media is covering the heat, but if you’re interested in: the causes of the boy crisis; solutions; and how you can more effectively help boys avoid the “failure to launch,” go to whitehouseboysmen, CAFÉ, and The Myth of Male Power.

New Videos – CNN’s Sonja Live – One of My Favorites

I am just reviewing some of the old TV shows I’ve done, and chosen one of my favorites: a show on CNN moderated by Sonja Friedman. The show is no longer on the air. It was called ‘Sonja Live.’ Sonja is a psychologist and she asks excellent questions. What started out programmed as a quasi-debate ends up becoming an informative and fun interview with real depth, rather than sound bites. Surprisingly, it manages to cover all the following topics in-depth in only twenty minutes:

The real meaning of makeup (both male and female)
What is a genetic celebrity?
Why do women fall in love with a man-child?
How both sexes fall in love with the members of the other sex who are the least capable of loving
Being married to the marriage and not to the man
